THE BOGNOR Friday Night Benevolent League mixed pairs knockouts at Newtown Social Club attracted only half as many players as last year.

The first semi-final saw Mary-Jane Todd and Bradley Marshall take on last year’s winner Gary Blackwood and new partner Janet Grinstead. The first leg saw Blackwood get off to a great start with a ton and he and Grinstead never looked back in the leg.

The second again saw Blackwood start with a ton, and though Todd and Marshall were closer, they were not close enough and Blackwood hit the double.

The second semi-final saw last year’s runner-up Caz Taylor and new team-mate Simon McDougall up against husband and wife pair Mary and Mark Todd.

A better start from the Todds saw them get the first shot at the double and Mary hit the double for the leg. The second leg saw the only ton come from Mark Todd before Mary wrapped up the leg and the game.

That put Grinstead and Blackwood up against the Todds in the final.

A 140 and a ton shared by the Todds, and then the double, put them into the early lead.

The second leg saw a slow start from the Todds. Eventually Mark Todd hit a 140 but Gary Blackwood followed that with his own 140. Numerous missed chances left Blackwood the chance to hit single one and double two to take the leg.

The last leg saw Grinstead and Blackwood get the better start. It swung both ways but Grinstead needed 25 for the title and hit single three with the first dart, and after a miss with the second, she hit double 11 and screamed out loud realising she had won to take the Benevolent League Sandy Carter mixed pairs knockout title 2014-15.
