Doubles at the double at Fontwell Park

Nicky Henderson and Andrew Tinkler teamed up for a double at Fontwell's latest midweek meeting - then Paul Nicholls and Daryl Jacob followed suit.

Henderson and Tinkler tasted victory with 6/4 favourite Pippa Greene in the Fuller’s London Pride Maiden Hurdle, ending six lengths clear of Tony McCoy on Littledean Jimmy.

And the same pair combined to good effect again in the Harry Latham Memorial Handicap Hurdls as 9/2 shot Lieutenant Miller held off a strong late challenge from Gary Moore’s course specialist Psi, ridden by Joshua Moore.

Champion trainer Nicholls made the trip to Fontwell and would have been glad he did as in-form Jacob rode two winners for him - 5/2 contender Sire Collonges led from the start for an impressive triumph in the 3663 First For Food Beginners’ Chase and 2/1 favourite Suerte Al Salto did the business in the last, the Betfred Supports The British Heart Foundation Day Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Biggest-priced winner of the day was Doctor Ric (15/2), who Colin Bolger got first past the post for trainer Gerry Enright in the opener, the Jan And Cindy’s (Growing Old Disgracefully) Novices’ Handicap Chase.

Newmarket handler Neil King saw Alex Merriam steer 3/1 favourite Delgany Gunner to the win in the SIS Live Handicap Chase.

West Sussex trainer Lydia Richards was celebrating after Marc Goldstein took a thrilling Quick Fire Powered By Microgaming Handicap Chase with Venetian Lad (7/2) in a race that could have gone to one of any three contenders almost to the line.

Fontwell’s next meeting is their big Diamond Jubilee Raceday on Sunday, June 3. See the Observer and this website for previews, offers and tips in the run-up to the day.
