LAVANT

Lavant Blue 47 Midhurst Eagles 20

Away to Midhurst, Blue quickly took control, scoring well on both mats to win. Lavant also won the friendly.

Scores: T Boxall (skip), B Wallsgrove, W Cooper, T Haigh won 24-10; J Sharrod (skip), J Lee, M Winter, C Beardmore won 23-10.

Lavant A 35 Comptons 37

In their match in the League KO series, Lavant’s mat one were slow to score and failed to improve, losing by seven shots.

The Lavant mat two started well for a good lead but lost some ground towards the end. They did win by five shots but this was not enough to make up the match deficit and Lavant A were knocked out.

Scores: P Winter (skip), T Bleach, R Peirce, J Simms lost 20-13; P Whale (skip), P Beardmore, J Powell, R Harding won 22-17.

Chilgrove 15 Lavant 49

The second of three legs for the Golden Bowl trophy was played at Chilgrove, and two high-scoring games increased Lavant’s first-leg lead.

The match score over two legs is 84-40 to Lavant, a lead of 44 shots.

Scores: P Whale (skip), J Lee, W Cooper won 32-6; B Wallsgrove (skip), D Kirby, Y Squires won 17-9.

Lavant Red 28 Arundel 31

Red expected a tough game and got one. On mat one they scored well and kept a slender lead all the way to win by three shots.

On mat two, both teams were held to single-shot wins for 17 of the 21 ends. Arundel won by six shots in a low-scoring game.

Scores: P Winter (skip), T Bleach, L Kneale, R Peirce won 18-15; P Whale (skip), P Beardmore, B Wallsgrove, A Ballantyne lost 16-10.

DONNINGTON

Donnington invited Chilgrove to play a triples match.

Bowling for Donnington were Ann Hulbert, captain for the evening Colin Hulbert and skip Terry Haigh on rink one and Steph Baverstock, Dave Turner and skip Peter Whale on rink two.

It was an enjoyable evening and Donnington won on both mats.

Donnington played Fittleworth on three mats at their village hall.

For Donnington Ann Hulbert, Chris White, Dave Turner and skip Colin Hulbert faced Muriel Cook, Arthur Elcome, Tessa Clegg and skip Alvar Etherington while Donnington’s Sue Coley, Alison Beal, Brian Taylor and skip Terry Haigh were up against Jane Adsett, Sheila Allen, Marc Wood and Gina Barnfield.

On rink three Donnington’s Steph Baverstock, Colin Dean, Mike Beal and skip Allan Banham played Audrey Hodgson, Pauline Gilpin, Marilyn Knight and skip Bernard Adsett.

When Donnington had hosted Fittleworth in November, they lost to the visitors. This game saw Donnington return the compliment by winning at Fittleworth by ten points.

CRABLANDS

Although evenly matched, Avocets could only come away with one point away to Norfolk Cubs.

On rink one Sheila Plaistow, Celia Foot, Trevor Plaistow and skip Alan Foot were slow to start and were 13-5 down by the ninth end. However, once they found the mat they scored 12 to Norfolk’s four and were drawing 17-17 with only six ends to go.

Despite consistently good play by Foot, the home team took the remaining ends and won 25-17.

On rink two it was a more nip and tuck game with the lead changing hands many times.

Confident play by Joan Taylor, Elaine Sadler, Don Jonas and skip Bill Merritt put Avocets into a four-point lead at the 19th end. Getting the rub of the mat on the 20th end, Norfolk managed to take three shots and were able to take one on the final end resulting in a 16-16 draw.

MIDHURST

The Eagles played two friendly matches.

Pulborough upset their winning streak by beating them 64-46, but the Eagles did win two rinks out of three.

Scores: S Tait, B Osbourne, M Spandley, S Glazebrook won 22-19; D Clark, D Berry, B Fallows, T Berry won 16-13; S Trussler, I Frost, J Etheridge-Barns, R Weeks lost 32-8.

Against Nyetimber, the Eagles won on two mats and only lost on the third by seven shots - to take the match 55-49.

Scores: L Stevens, C Morgan, J Etheridge-Barns, R Weeks won 20-11; M Symonds, M Spandley, D Berry, T Berry won 20-16; D Morgan, B Osbourne, I Frost, S Glazebrook lost 22-15.

SOUTHBOURNE

Walberton Blues 32 Southbourne Rovers 39

Rovers had an excellent win away in south-west zone division two of the West Sussex Winter League against Walberton Blues. Southbourne won on both mats and by seven shots overall to earn all six points.

Scores: Irene Jennings, John Staker, Dave Young & Alan Williams (s) won 20-16; Pete Jasinski, Colin Bulbeck, Margaret Odell & Alan Shelley (s) won 19-16.

Southbourne Rangers 39 Comptons 41

Rangers lost at home against Comptons in countywide division two of the West Sussex Winter League. Each team won on one mat and Southbourne narrowly lost overall by two shots to earn two points.

Scores: Audrey Bull, Karen Alner, Mark Soper & Rodney Bull (s) won 23-17; John Hardy, Dave Walter, Robin Armstrong & Dave Alner (s) lost 24-16.
