England women's cricket captain to visit Chichester

England women's cricket captain Charlotte Edwards is visiting Chichester next week.

She will be at Game Set & Match on Thursday to meet young local players, sign autographs, talk about her career and hopefully have a look at the action in the indoor nets to see the vast talent there is in the district.

Edwards was, until recently, the youngest player to make her Test debut in the women’s division at an international level - Middleton’s Holly Colvin is now the youngest.

Edwards made her debut in 1995, the year Game Set & Match was formed.

She is an upper-order batsman and thrives in the one-day game – she has played more than 100 ODIs and has smashed more than 12 centuries in one season. The day before her 18th birthday she hit a record-breaking 173 not out against Ireland in the World Cup. Her maiden Test hundred was scored against India.

Attaining visits from such class players really underlines how far Game Set & Match has come - from a little shop in Oving Road to a major retailer supplying to most cricket, hockey, rugby and bowls clubs in our area.

Edwards’ visit is just in time for the beginning of the outdoor season and could encourage more girls to take up the game. Cricket is the fastest-growing female sport in the UK.
