It was particularly pleasing as Fernhurst were the presented with three trophies their teams had won. These were the ladies’ A team who won summer division four, the mixed doubles veterans’ side who won summer division two and the mixed doubles division-three winter team.

The team captains, the players and the club’s team manager Judith Turner were all delighted.

Turner said: “We are delighted to have done so well over the year. With our other teams, two have come a very close second. We are lucky to have a good number of players who are keen to play and enjoy it.

“We quite often put out people who have never played together before, rather than sticking to a set four, so are even more pleased we have done well and are looking forward to a good winter season. So far we are leading the ladies and lying second in the veteran mixed so things are looking good – but all could change.”
