Fontwell forced to abandon over rainfall

The track has been unable to withstand six inches of rain that has fallen in the past fortnight - with another three-quarters of an inch forecast before tomorrow afternoon.

It is a blow to the course, which had attracted 101 entries for the seven-race card, including 27 in the bumper.

Now officials will turn their attention to Sunday week’s meeting, which includes one of their biggest races of the year - the Totepool Southern National.

The first of seven races is timed for 12.45pm.
