Jack Pearce and Robbie Blake admit they were pleasantly surprised by the fitness on display last night as the Rocks underwent their first training session ahead of the new Isthmian premier division campaign.

The Bognor squad took part in a gruelling 90-minute session with fitness coach Neil Cockcroft running the rule over proceedings as the Nye Camp aces gear up for their first pre-season game of the season at East Preston on Monday.

Pearce said: "It was great to be able to be with the players once again after what we have been through with the pandemic and having the season cut short last time of asking because of it. Overall the lads worked extremely hard and we were encouraged by the shape the players presented themselves in."

Coach Blake says there is more to come when it comes to hard work. He added: "These sessions are all about blowing away the cobwebs and we'll go again on Wednesday and Friday before we go into the first game. It was enjoyable to take the session with Neil and Jack and we will look to continue the progress in terms of fitness."

The Rocks welcomed a number of new faces to the squad but are yet to officially announce signings. And Pearce added: "We're very, very close on a couple of significant signings and hopefully we can let the supporters know sooner rather than later on these."

Bognor playmaker Doug Tuck quit the club last week to join league rivals Horsham but the nucleus of last season's squad remains in place. With a couple of additions, it seems that the Rocks will be in decent shape to tackle the new season ahead.
