Bognor Regis Town will take a huge amount of belief into Cheshunt clash after first home victory

Robbie Blake says Bognor will take a huge amount of belief into Saturday's clash at Cheshunt after the Rocks grabbed a first Isthmian League premier division victory.

Nye Camp coach Blake and manager Jack Pearce watched the home side chalk up a deserved 2-1 win over a strong Carshalton Athletic outfit on Tuesday to help chase away the cup woes from the weekend.

Bognor were walloped 5-0 in the FA Cup at Hayes & Yeading United prior to the hard-fought victory midweek but showed tremendous character to grab the three points thanks to first-half goals from Joe Cook and Sam Dowridge.

Harry Ottaway pulled one back with six minutes remaining and only an excellent save from Amadou Tangara denied the visitors a share of the spoils in what was the home side's first game in front of the new-look Nyewood Lane with the impressive main stand having been erected over the summer months.

Next up is a trip to London to take on the Ambers and Blake is determined his players apply the same desire, tactical awareness and ability they showed in such abundance.

He said: "The players should get great credit for the way they stuck at it throughout the entire 90 minutes and overall we deserved the win. We could have had four or five goals during the first half alone with our sheer quality of play. We made a very good team look average to be honest.

"We weren't quite as good after the break but dug in and showed great character under pressure late on. The work ethic was brilliant and it helped us at the end when we were 2-1 down and everything was a bit edgy.

"Overall it was a great three points against a side that in my opinion will be in the top six come the end of the season.

"We said to the players before the game that they must try to bounce back after what happened at Hayes & Yeading and they didn't let anyone down and showed great character to get us a cracking result. The performance was really good and there were five or six players who could easily have got a man-of-the-match award.

"The next challenge is to take the positives into the game at Cheshunt and we are confident that we can do that in what will be a tough test once again."
