Boss finds positives but Selsey bow out of FA Vase

A bumper crowd watched Redhill knock Selsey out of the FA Vase 2-1 as new boss Adam Hinshelwood was denied two consecutive home wins.

The former Brighton defender took charge for his third game and saw his side go 2-0 down inside the first half-hour thanks to a Gavin Gordon double.

Luke Killner scored a consolation in front of 115 fans but Hinshelwood saw enough to be optimistic at this early stage of his tenure.

He said: “I’m still finding my feet a little bit and getting to know the players. I said when I came in I wanted to have a look at everyone first and give them a chance.

“We’ve got a young team and perhaps we looked at the size of them (Redhill) and gave them a bit too much respect early on.

“The response in the second half was a good one, although we also rode our luck a couple of times.

“But I thought we looked the side most on the front foot, so that was pleasing.

“There’s plenty to take from that and we’ve got two training sessions now to get those points across and hopefully we’ll get our first league points on Saturday.”

AFC Uckfield visit next and Hinshelwood will be focusing on a defence who have shipped seven goals in three games.

He said: “Being a defender it’s probably what you look at first – the little things we’ve worked on defensively so far I thought worked well at times, so it’s good to see them taking that on board.

“There are tweaks I’m keen to get across at training and I think we’ll be a much better side for it – I know it’s going to take time, of course.”
