Chichester ladies downed by Dartford

There was a resounding defeat for Chichester ladies' second team, but a good win for Felpham Tigers under-16 girls in the latest women's and girls' football action.

On one of the hottest days of the year Chichester’s trip to Dartford resulted in a game of two completely different halves.

The first half was competitive but Dartford struck first with a well-worked goal to make it 1-0. Chichester were working hard and Kerri Grant had a couple of good opportunities before she took one to level at 1-1.

Lucy Challen and Megan Evans were causing problems for the Dartford defence but the ball just wouldn’t go in.

Dartford retook the lead just before half-time with a well-worked move.

In the second half the heat was too much for Chichester and Dartford took control, having several opportunities before they extended their lead to 3-1 when a defensive error allowed a Dartford striker to find a team-mate. Dartford sealed the win with a penalty on 85 minutes.

The signs of a team growing as a unit were shown in the first half but Chichester are still looking for their first points of a difficult season so far.

Felpham knew it was important to get off to a good start against the league leaders and they did not disappoint with Remi Crawley and Jordan Kitchen taking control of the midfield to give them the early edge.

With Shannon Makey outstanding on the left, Felpham caused the leaders lots of problems and it was no surprise when Natalie Spencer headed home in style from a dangerous Makey corner to give Felpham a deserved half-time lead.

The second half started with Felpham putting Polegate under pressure but it took a strike from Makey from 40 yards to double the lead.

This allowed Felpham to play their passing game and Eloise Paine beat the offside trap to finish, and when Kitchen released Abbie Flower to slot home, Felpham were four up against the unbeaten leaders.

Polegate rallied and Tanya Wake had to be at her best to deny them a consolation and with Chloe Luff and Crawley outstanding in defence, Felpham cruised to an impressive win.
