Chichester slip to defeat - and injuries are not helping

Chichester boss Adie Girdler has bemoaned his side's injury woes in the wake of their 4-1 defeat at East Grinstead in division one of the Sussex League '“ but he is confident of adding fresh blood to his squad.

City’s four-match winning streak seems a distant memory after their second straight loss by the same scoreline.

Lewis Edwards scored City’s goal after the winger was given a centre-forward berth because of the injury problems.

Girdler believes he must add to his numbers to get back to winning ways.

He said: “It was disappointing because it was the worst we’ve played all season. But we’re struggling for players at the moment, and that’s not helping.

“Harry Gilbert and Steve Cotton played with injuries – Steve had to come off after five minutes.

“We were also missing Ben Vassallo, who is a big player for us.

“If it hadn’t been for our goalkeeper, Matt Short, it could have been 10-1.”

Girdler will welcome the return of midfielder Sam Doran and new signing Pat Mattison for Saturday’s FA Vase tie at Sidley.

The City boss says his recruitment drive has kicked into motion and a couple more players could be added to swell the ranks.

“I may bring a couple in for the weekend,” he said.

“I’m looking to sign some new players.

“They’re just players – they’re not big names.

“I’m looking everywhere for players to bring in to bolster our squad. I need a defensive player, and an attacking midfielder.”
