There was a big win for AFC Chichester, Shuker Trophy success for Elmer and a division-three win for Amberley in the latest round of Chichester and West Sussex Sunday League and cup action.

Rangers crashed out of the Rosebowl at the quarter-final stage after a comprehensive defeat.

Rangers were forced to start with nine players as two men were late, and they set their stall out to hold out until others arrived.

They were able to contain AFC Chichester in the early stages but the visitors’ numerical advantage led to them taking the lead after a cross was turned in.

The nine men levelled when top scorer Callum Millar converted after a free run on goal. Richie in the Rangers goal made two superb saves. Rangers were soon at full strength, but this didn’t stop them going behind when an effort from outside the box rebounded in off the post.

Gordon Todd equalised following Ben Ring’s cross.

AFC Chichester were simply brilliant in the second half and stormed into a 5-2 lead within 15 minutes and although Callum Millar scored again to give Rangers hope, a further two goals were added to give AFC Chichester the comfortable win they deserved.

Elmer built on their strong cup record by progressing to the semi-final of the Shuker Memorial Trophy at Westergate.

Last season’s Ken Baker Memorial Cup winners took the lead on five minutes through Shane Rapley after great work by debutant Liam Embleton.

Rapley fail to convert at least three chances and Alex Norgett missing an open goal.

SV capitalised after being awarded a free kick, Andy Janman crashing the 25-yard effort past Steve Nanson.

Elmer wrapped it up with a super goal on 76 minutes. A swift ball from skipper Alex Peach down the left found James Ford, and his cross was met with a thunderous header from Rapley into SV’s net.

Division three

The home side struck in the fifth minute but Elmer, with prolific Enoch Kwoffie making his first start, got on top with his double.

Inexperience showed and the hosts put in a battling second-half display, scoring three without reply.
