Hinshelwood's not happy as Selsey help Horsham back on track

The visitors had gone 11 games without so much as a point but first-half strikes from Matthew Crane and Tim Martin stopped the rot for them and left Selsey with an uphill struggle in their quest to finish in the top half of division one.

Not even the dismissal of Dean Wright for the visitors aided the home side’s cause, and that’s now three defeats in four for Selsey as they prepare to take on league leaders Rye United in the RUR Charity Cup final at the end of April.

Boss Hinshelwood (pictured) told the Observer: “I’m bitterly disappointed to be honest - I can’t emphasise enough how disappointed I am.

“We went with a young team and I regret it because a lot of people turned up and with a big crowd paying to get in, we let those people down on a massive scale.

“I feel for people who handed their money over to see Selsey play because that was a poor reflection of what I want my side to be about.

“The first goal was a long throw into the box. We were naïve with the young side and no-one really took charge of the situation and their lad tucked it away.

“There was a massive incentive for them to play a few games and there are places available for the cup final, and if that was the level of effort and commitment that you get for someone wanting to be part of that then it’s nowhere near what I would expect.”

Next up is a trip to the Sports Park to face sixth-placed Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday, with the hosts on a six-match winning streak.
