Hollands: Points are all that count for Pompey

And the Blues midfielder is happy to do that the ugly way as his side travel to bottom-of-the-table Dagenham & Redbridge.

That was just their second home success of the season – in all competitions.

Hollands is taking nothing for granted against John Still’s side, with there now little room for manoeuvre in the bid to go up.

The 30-year-old feels his team are going to face a scrap against a side facing an uphill battle to keep their place in the Football League.

And the challenge for Pompey is to simply find a way of getting the points to produce the sort of winning run they desperately need.

Hollands said: ‘We’ve had two good results and that keeps it interesting.

‘We believe we can keep going places and winning games.

‘We go to Dagenham and it’s not an easy place to win a game.

‘But we have to find a way.

‘We have to work and graft for the three points now.

‘It’s last chance really. Seven cup finals now. Whoever wants it more on the day generally comes out on top at this stage of the season.

‘It’s a case of doing the ugly side of it to win. If we do that it’s hopefully enough to get the three points.’

Hollands is set to start his seventh game in a row in the middle of the park tomorrow.

He told The News this week he feels he’s bounced back from a low ebb in his career last season.

Now he’s looking forward to being part of what could be a memorable finale to the campaign.

I’m satisfied, but from now until the end of the season is massive. Absolutely massive,’ said Hollands.

‘People are going to remember this. People are going to remember these last seven games.

‘I’ve managed to get in and now have seven games to keep pushing myself and my standards.

‘I feel I’m doing okay.

‘There’s room for improvement. I’m not someone who’s deluded and going to say they are the best player on the pitch week-in, week-out.

‘But I feel I’m doing okay and doing a job for the team.’

The midfielder gave an insight into the unity in the Pompey squad as the campaign reaches its climax.

He added: ‘We’ve got enough in our squad to compete with the best teams in the league.

‘We are a squad. We have to make sure we work together.

‘We push each other as a squad in training.

‘It’s all good. Anyone who takes the field, we’re behind each other.

‘We’re pushing each other in the right manner.’
