Playing in their third game so far this week, they showed remarkable energy in racing to a 3-0 lead by the 31st minute.

He said: “I am delighted with today’s performance and the result, we don’t normally do well at Burgess Hill as it’s always a tough place to come.

“We had a fantastic start and never really looked back!

“There was a very strong wind we had in the first half and I thought that helped us and maybe that caught Burgess Hill cold at the start.

“With goals you get a bit of momentum and I felt we had that and we got through.

“In the second half Burgess Hill came back into it and we tired like we have lately but I am just delighted to get the result here tonight.”

Howell praised double goalscorer Jason Prior for another inspired performance.

“Jason is our club captain and our talisman and has been excellent. He took his goals really well. I thought the second goal was a fantastic goal.

“Connor Tighe came in from a hamstring injury Stuart Green came into the centre of the park and both did really well.

“We’ve had a real tough schedule and our performance levels have been superb. I just hope we recover in time for playing Leatherhead at home on Saturday.

“Ideally we wanted to get to the play-offs at the start of the season.

“With the three defeats we’ve had recently I was worried we might not even make the play-offs so we wanted to stop the rot.

“Hopefully that will steady the ship a bit and help us get back to playing our normal way and hopefully pick up some points.”
