Knight: Washout pain worsened by shopping with the missus!

That’s the sort of thing which happens when one of our games ends up being postponed!

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one in that position after the AFC Wimbledon match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Seriously, it was good to be able to spend some quality time with the missus, even if it didn’t look like it.

You have to feel for the people who made the journey to the game, even if we didn’t get that far.

It wasn’t quite the same as getting past Birmingham when the Accrington Stanley game was called off in January. But I know there were people who’d come across from the Isle of Wight and spent a few quid on travelling to the game.

So, we were left looking at other games with our scheduled televised fixture a washout. And you have to say that results were beneficial for us on the whole.

Yes, Plymouth picked up a win but would have had the jitters late on against York before grabbing a 3-2 success.

Northampton are gone now, but did what they do by coming from 2-0 down at Mansfield to get a point and keep their run going.

But Bristol Rovers losing at Carlisle was a bonus, especially as you have to be impressed with how they have been doing.

Darrell Clarke’s side have picked up that habit of winning games in blocks.

They lose and draw the odd one and then put a bunch of wins together, which is why they are coming on strong.

I remember when working with Kevin Dillon at Aldershot he would have a strong focus on bunching games together.

He’d have a points target to achieve every month, and they would all be mapped out on a board with graphs and a predicted points total.

That 2009-10 season we got into the League Two play-offs with Dils in charge and definitely over-achieved to do that.

Finally, I’m looking forward to catching up with a number of old faces this weekend.

The eighth Pompey Hall of Fame induction evening takes place on Friday, and is followed by the latest Pompey Former Players’ Association reunion on Saturday.

Svetoslav Todorov, Noel Blake and Dave Kemp will all be at Fratton Park on Friday, with Billy ‘Farmer’s Boy’ Haines inducted posthumously.
