While the football season has finished for most players, Chichester City Ladies duo Hollie Wride and Lauren Cheshire have crossed the Atlantic to sign for American side Santa Clarita Blue Heat.
The pair were approached by the American team in the early part of the season with an opportunity to play in the Women’s Pro League within the Western Conference.
Their English season finished with Chichester City Ladies on April 30 with an emphatic 2-0 win over Swindon Town and they flew out of the country four days later to join their new side.
As part of the deal they are given accommodation with one of their team-mates – but have both had to work hard to gain a place in the squad with a huge cut of more than 20 players being left out.
They are set to spend the remainder of the American season playing for Blue Heat before returning to England in early July to start pre-season for Chichester.
Wride said: “So far it’s been a great experience and amazing to learn a different style of play. We are training every day and it is very intense but my aim is to work as hard as I can to achieve the most I can while here and bring what I’ve learned back to England.”
Cheshire added: “It’s an experience of a lifetime, living the lifestyle of a pro. I want to take the experience back to England and push myself and the team up to the next level.”
City ladies manager Matt Wright is delighted the pair have been scouted for such an opportunity.
“It is a real honour for our players to be selected to play for a team of this standard – it just goes to show the strength and depth we have here in Chichester,” he said.
Chichester finished third in the South West Combination League this season and hope the experience Wride and Cheshire bring back from the States will help them better this achievement next season.
