TWO goals by Alex Ansa proved enough to give Chichester City a 2-1 win and the three points at Hassocks and cement their mid-table standing in division one of the Sussex League.

Lewis Edwards made his first start for two months following injury in a match that passed a morning pitch inspection against a Hassocks side who have been struggling to find their form all season.

A poor clearance from Robins’ keeper George Willett enabled Ansa to score his first with 15 minutes played, and a deflection ten minutes later extended the advantage to 2-0.

After this, Hassocks knuckled down to business but the damage had already been done and some resolute Chichester defending kept the home attacks under control.

It wasn’t until the 70th minute that Phil Johnson pulled one back for Hassocks, but with their captain Ashley Marsh receiving his marching orders following a scuffle, there were no further goals and City held on comfortably for the victory.

It was more of the same for Selsey as they suffered another hefty home defeat.

Goals by Kenny Pogue, Dan Smith and Matt Darby had put Town in charge before Jamie Binyon replied for the Blues.

But Ross Sutton, Darby, George Robinson and Jack Turner added further Eastbourne goals after the break.

Pagham’s visit to Eastbourne Utd AFC was washed out. They aim to get back to winning ways when they host Hailsham on Saturday.
