A nine-year-old girl from Chichester has been selected to join Brighton’s girls’ centre of excellence.
Having successfully completed an intensive round of trials in June, Holly Heffron, a pupil at Bishop Tufnell CofE Junior School in Felpham, will join the under-11 squad later this month.
The Brighton CoE is one of only 30 nationwide to be awarded an FA Licence for the 2011-12 season.
Providing training opportunities to girls aged eight to 16, the centre has under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17 teams competing in the London & South East Centre of Excellence fixture programme, which includes games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Colchester, Millwall and Norwich.
Holly started playing football at six and played for Felpham Colts.
Mum Tracey Heffron said: “Holly was over the moon to be selected to play for Brighton and she was so excited.
“We were very pleased for her as she loves playing football and we are very proud of her achievement.”
Holly was invited to the new Amex Stadium in Brighton for a tour of the facilities. She will join up with her new team-mates later this month.
