Pagham roared back to Sussex League first-division action with a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Redhill.

In goal, Wes Hallett made way for James Binfield to give the youngster the chance to add to his impressive early-season performances.

Ben Buckland could have given Pagham the lead in the second minute but his strike snaked the wrong side of the post before Redhill forced a tremendous save from Binfield.

James Temple went close while Wayne Clarke hit the post for the visitors.

He went one better on 17 minutes, with a run and shot that eluded Pagham’s defence and a blameless Binfield.

Their lead lasted all of four minutes as a handball on the line saw Ryan Biggs red-carded for Redhill and the resultant penalty stuck away by Scott Murfin.

Redhill keeper Dean Ruddy made good saves from Murfin and Pagham missed clear-cut chances.

Clarke and Kayode for the visitors showed blistering pace to get Redhill back into the game, but their chances weren’t turned into goals.

The Lions started the second half brightly, with Joe Booker’s cross not quite hitting the mark.

This allowed Leon Duisard a clear run down the right for Redhill, and only a timely clearance by Alex Ward stopped them taking the lead.

Pagham’s Ben Buckland had a shot cleared off the line and Kayne Woolery forced another good save from Binfield. With just over an hour gone, Temple took on Redhill’s defence with both a header and a decent shot kept out by Ruddy, the second from a superb ball in from Howard Neighbour.

Pagham took the lead with 20 minutes to go as Temple latched on to a cross to put the ball past Ruddy.

Dan Simmonds came on and each side picked up a booking.

Dapo Kayode ran at Pagham’s defence and as most waited for the offside flag, his shot was saved by Binfield.

Neil Murfin forced Ruddy into a point-blank save and in injury time the same player was treated for an injury and picked up a booking following a clash with Duisard.
