Little catch a Common cold as Midhurst win again

Three wins in a row – it’s a while since Midhurst were able to relfect on such a pleasing spell of games but that’s what they can do after a 2-0 win at Little Common.

Little Common had beaten high-flying Southwick in the Sussex Senior Cup and were feeling confident but from the off, Midhurst looked the more likely to score.

Sean Dummer is often used as a defender these days but he went close to opening the scoring when he hit the upright on the half-hour.

Gary Buller was on hand to increase his season’s goal tally to ten following a well-taken corner by Lewis Hyde.

Paul ‘Willo’ Williamson, the Midhurst keeper, was in good form as were his defence.

Little Common decided to use all their subs and brought on Dan Bristow, Sam Brown and Mick O’Callaghan for Jake Sherwood, Jerome Smith and Ricky Mate.

Buller picked up the only booking before 16-year-old Oliver Pearce was brought on for John Colvan.

The referee considered a penalty was called for after a robust tackle on Callum Wooler by Neil Reilly. But Williamson pushed out the penalty.

The last 20 minutes saw Midhurst well in control and Lewis Hyde got the second with a superb lob.

MIDHURST: Williamson, Page, Dummer, Colvan, Browne, Saunders, Reilly, Hyde, Huish, Buller, Castleton, Pearce.

On Saturday, the first team visit Mile Oak while the reserves are at home to Littlehampton.
