Selsey ready for another assault on Sussex League

Ian Martin will be hoping his Selsey side can finish higher up the Sussex League table in the 2011-12 season after finishing just outside the relegation zone last year.

Despite steering clear of a relegation battle for most of the year, the side’s end-of-season form saw them drop off to 17th position.

Though progression was made during Martin’s first year in charge after the departure of Gary Block, Selsey will be hoping they can rack up more points this year.

Selsey’s friendly programme sees them host Locks Heath this Saturday (July 23) – the first teams play at 2pm then the reserves follow at 4.15pm.

Next Tuesday, Ferring visit the High Street Ground (7.45pm) and Lymington follow on Saturday for another first XI/reserves double header under way at 1pm. Selsey host AFC Portchester at 7.45 on Tuesday, August 2, while Corinthian Casuals are in town on Saturday, August 6.

* Selsey were the visitors to Sidlesham on Tuesday night and the home side, preparing for life in West Sussex premier, were delighted with a 0-0 draw.

Malcolm Harwood’s side now look forward to home friendlies with Wick on Saturday (3pm) and Arundel on Tuesday (7.15pm).
