Who are we playing today? Oh ... Real Madrid

Barnham Trojans FC versus Real Madrid – it’s not a game you’d normally expect to see on a midweek fixture list.

But Barnham Trojans were invited to play the mighty Real Madrid’s academy team at Bishop Otter Campus at Chichester University.

The Real Madrid Academy are staying at the university as part of a month-long educational tour.

Trojans took four teams with them, from under-nines through to under-16s. Each team played a number of short friendly games against their Real Madrid counterparts.

Both clubs had the same philosophy - to play passing football - and the games were very entertaining and a great spectacle for football purists.

Real Madrid had some exceptional players on show and won the majority of the games but the Barnham teams gave a great account of themselves with some close-fought affairs. Although Real Madrid ran out convincing winners overall, the prestige of playing the Spanish giants will remain in the memories of the boys for a long time, especially the scorers.
