Barnham Trojans under-tens Blue team enjoyed a first summer tournament win at the Lancing Rangers event, extending their successful season after being crowned Arun & Chichester Football League under-ten A division champions.

The Lancing tournament involved 14 under-ten sides split into two pools, vying to win the trophy with six qualifying pool games in each pool, with the top four teams progressing to quarter-finals and start of the knockout stages.

Barnham faced Worthing Minors Youth, Worthing Town Youth, Oakwood Park, Lancing Rangers and Hove Ryevale and had an up-and-down record with three wins, two losses and a draw, with goals from Harry Terry, Toby Blanshard, Danny Howick, Findlay Johnson and Jenson Carruthers.

Qualifying fourth in the pool, Barnham faced the winners of the other qualifying pool – Eastbourne All Stars, a highly-rated team. Barnham wanted victory and played a fantastic game, outplaying a very talented side, with a single goal by Johnny Lye clinching a 1-0 win and semi-final spot.

Worthing Dynamos were the semi-final opposition and Barnham scored two goals in the first half. A third in the second half gave Barnham a decisive 3-1 win, all goals coming from Lye.

In the final Barnham played Worthing Minors Youth – who they’d lost to in the pool stages and who were runners-up to Barnham in the league.

Barnham showed excellent technical play, commitment and stamina in their ninth match of the day.

Lye scored another fabulous goal – the only one of the game – and Barnham were elated to be champions.

Bognor Town Youth under-tens won the Selsey tournament in May and were presented their winning trophy by ex-England and Arsenal defender Martin Keown.

To continue the success story that has seen Chichester City’s under-18 county side dominate the Sussex Youth League over the past four years, the club will be holding open trials at North Mundham playing field in School Road, North Mundham, next Thursday (June 26) from 6.30pm onwards.

Talented footballers are invited to the trials to join their existing under-18 squad members who completed the treble last season – winning the west division for the fourth season in a row, being crowned champions of Sussex for the second season in succession and lifting the Sussex Youth League Cup.

The club hope to finding exciting, talented players who will continue the Chichester City success story and become part of one the most exciting and forward-thinking clubs in the county.

Successful trialists will be invited back to play in matches against local sides and train and play with the club’s first and development squads throughout pre-season.
