The hosts took the lead on 55 minutes from the penalty spot. Lewis Hamilton burst forward and was brought down in box and Hamilton sent the keeper the wrong way to start the scoring frenzy.

Saltdean responded instantly, equalising straight from kick-off through Jack Deleiburne.

But Midhurst remained composed and regained their lead five minutes later through Scott Dormer, who netted his first of the afternoon.

Luke Sheldrick doubled Midhurst’s lead on the hour mark before Dormer scored his second of the afternoon with eight minutes left.

With manager John Suter away, Stags player Mark Broughton was in charge and he is delighted that their performances are finally being rewarded with results – this win lifting them to 14th, fourth from bottom.

“It was a good game and a good performance – we have been playing well in recent weeks but have not got the results so it was an overdue win,” said Broughton.
