Southwick, who had won five successive matches heading into Saturday, created several chances in the first half and took the lead when Ross Myers headed home Tom Donnelly’s cross on 16 minutes.

Donnelly twice and Jordan Peskett failed to convert one-on-one openings in the second half before Midhurst levelled through a superb strike from Lewis Hamilton which flew into the top corner.

Southwick went 2-1 ahead eight minutes from time when Myers headed Elliott Tucker’s cross to Donnelly, who challenged a Midhurst defender and the ball then landed and span fortuitously inside the bottom corner.

Wickers were denied all three points in the final minute. The visitors sent up keeper Aaron Jeal for a corner and with Southwick occupied with the Midhurst stopper, the ball found its way to Luke Fenlon at the back post and he tapped home.

First-half goals by John Phillips and Tom Jefkins were enough to earn Gary Jefkins’ Sids the points at Langney.

Marcus Allen pulled one back eight minutes from the end but Sids hung on for a win against a team they face again in the division one cup next Tuesday.

Jefkins said: “It was an excellent away performance and that should be enough now to keep us up.

“We not to far away from mid-table which is now the aim. It was important to lay down a marker as we play them again in the semi-final.”

Sids followed the victory with another – a 1-0 success at Steyning on Tuesday courtesy of Tom Bayley’s goal. Then last night (Apr 21) Dan Bassil’s hat-trick earned a 3-2 win at Lingfield.

Sids host Bexhill on Saturday.

* Selsey lost 1-0 at Ringmer and aim to improve when they go to Midhurst this weekend.

Bosham 2 Upper Beeding 2

Billingshurst 0 Bosham 2

Ryan Hillier snatched a late equaliser for Bosham to scramble a point against Upper Beeding – but the result called a temporary halt to Bosham’s recent progress.

Shortly after the half-hour Bosham were awarded a spot kick when Lee Trower handled in his own area. Marco Giambelardini dispatched it to give the Reds the lead.

Beeding had a period of pressure and, from a corner, Danny Geard headed in. A couple of minutes into the second half, Joss Knowles fired the visitors into the lead for the first time. The striker was afforded too much room approaching the Reds box and picked his spot for a sublime finish.

Dave Storey, Louis Bell and Graeme Dowden came on and it seemed to lift the Robins. In the 88th minute when Alex Barnes played an exquisite ball into Hillier’s path and the striker did the rest, to the delight of both players and supporters.

On Tuesday, Dowden’s second-half double earned a 2-0 win at Billingshurst.

Bosham: Magee, Probee, Docherty, Bulbeck, Bryant, Fewell, Wilson, Giambelardini, Hillier, Wilson, Lafferty. Subs: Redman, Storey, Bell, Dowden, Stevens.
