Norgate double helps Stags lower Langney's colours

Langney won the toss and opted to play with the strong wind in the first half at The Oval.

An onslaught ensued in the first 15 minutes but Midhurst stood strong. Billy Nash in the Stags goal with the the help of Mark Broughton, Luke Martin, Nathan Hunt and Joel Stevens looked solid and at ease with each other.

The deadlock was broken on 10 minutes. A long ball into the Stags box wasn’t dealt with and Nathan Crabb slotted home.

Ant Kirby, Lewis Hamilton and Liam Dreckmann in the Stags midfield began to win first and second balls and Midhurst grew into the half.

A half-chance from Oli Lee was saved well and Gary Norgate had one cleared off the line.

The second half began at a blistering pace. Alex Brazier, Midhurst’s young talented winger, produced several menacing runs on the right, causing constant problems.

The equaliser came on 55 minutes. A ball from Dreckmann found Kirby 20 yards out. He was bundled to the floor and the resulting free-kick was coolly finished by Hamilton.

Lee was replaced by new signing Craig Larvin – and what an impact he made. A breakaway attack between Brazier, Hamilton and Kirby found Larvin on the edge of the 18-yard box and he picked out Norgate to put the Stags 2-1 up.

The Midhurst attacks continued and Norgate got his second. A Nash goal-kick was headed on by Larvin, Norgate gambled, took a touch around Langley’s centre-half and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box.

Brazier could have had two goals but was thwarted. Goal four came on 80 minutes. Paul Grantham, on from the bench, broke up a Langney attack and a free-kick was awarded.

Hamilton found Norgate, whose touch set Nathan Casselton clear and he delivered a superb cross to find Larvin to nod home.

The fifth came on 85 minutes as ball into Dreckmann from Hunt was finished very cheekily.

Midhurst boss Dave Berkowitz said he was proud of the maturity of his team.

“Langney are a good team, physically strong with good ball players who on their day can be as good as anyone,” he said.

“Unfortunately for them so are we – we are coming into a great run of form and the whole squad are really showing their worth. We mustn’t get complacent in our remaining six games and I’ve challenged the lads to get maximum points.”
