Now it's a perfect ten for Pagham in the Sussex League

Pagham completed a perfect ten as they continued their astonishing Sussex League first-division winning run against Horsham YMCA.

It put Carl Stabler’s team three points clear of nearest rivals Rye, who they visit on Saturday for a game that could be the biggest test yet of the Lions’ Ryman League ambitions, revealed in the Observer last week.

The visitors started well, looking every part the former Ryman League side they are, with Nick Sullivan looking especially lively.

Shots, however, were at a premium with only sporadic attacking from either side as the game remained goalless at the break.

The second half began with YMCA’s Dean Knight hitting Wes Hallett’s post.

Referee Barrie Small was the subject of crowd derision as Neil Murfin was cynically scythed down by Dan Sullivan, with only a free-kick resulting.

The single goal, when it came with about 20 minutes left, was a classic as a searing run and shot from James Temple gave keeper Simon Lockwood no chance.

Scott Murfin could have scored a few minutes later and Dan Simmonds shot straight at Lockwood when clean through, but in the end one goal was enough.
