Pagham boss praises fans after more awayday joy

PAGHAM boss Carl Stabler praised loyal Lions fans after yet another impressive triumph.

More than 50 supporters made the trip to Rye to cheer on the Nyetimber Lane table-toppers and they were rewarded with a 2-1 win.

That was their 11th win from 11 league games and things went from strength to strength on Tuesday night when they made it 12 from 12 with a 4-2 victory at St Francis Rangers.

Phil Turner, Paul Jones and Scott Murfin (2) got the goals that sent the Lions nine points clear at the top of division one of the Sussex League.

Stabler said: “I, the players and coaching staff have been amazed at the support we have had. It is a pleasure to have the backing of such loyal followers and on the pitch we will make every effort to try to keep winning games.

“We are keeping calm and not losing our heads. But we are in a great position and our aim is to maintain that.”

Stabler has revealed the home gates that Pagham are playing in front of have increased, too.

People love watching a winning team and they also like the fact there is such a warm and friendly atmosphere at Nyetimber Lane,” he said.

“There has been a big jump in the numbers who watch us and we hope that continues.

“Of course, we’d welcome new fans to come along and see for themselves. Hopefully we won’t disappoint.”

Pagham travel to East Grinstead Town on Saturday.

“We will respect East Grinstead and apply ourselves properly and hope to win the game,” Stabler added.

“There is a fine line between using confidence to maintain the spirit in the dressing room and over-confidence and I will remind the players of this.

“It’ll be another tough game but we’ll prepare properly and do our best again.”

After entertaining East Grinstead, the Lions are at home to Hassocks next Tuesday.
