Pompey midfielder '˜bored' of player platitudes as humiliation continues

Instead he has called for actions rather than meaningless words from his team-mates following yet another abject showing.

Guy Whittingham’s men suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The gutless showing was even worse than Newport the previous outing, while every bit as bad as the York debacle.

The travelling faithful booed them off at the final whistle as the players produced a pathetic reaction to that poor showing in Wales earlier in the week.

And a straight-talking Wallace has had enough of the same platitudes trotted out by the Blues’ underachievers after such results.

He said: ‘Personally, I am embarrassed how we performed on Saturday for the travelling fans.

‘I am bored of coming out after every game when we don’t perform well saying “we owe the fans one”.

‘There is only so much talking you can do.

‘I’m bored of reading all those articles. If you are a builder you don’t do a rubbish job and then apologise for it. It’s down to you to do a good job.

‘There are always going to be games for me personally where I am not up to it that day, where my quality is not there.

‘But I think the minimal requirement for all the boys is that we are hard to beat and we run for each other – which maybe didn’t happen on Saturday.

‘You can come out and make all the excuses in the world and say “we owe the fans” but I don’t agree with all that, I think you have to come out and put things right.

‘Situations happen like Saturday, you just have to roll your sleeves up and get on with it and we will be looking to do that.

‘I spoke after the York game and you can’t continue to come out and say “we owe the fans, blah, blah, blah”.

‘As a group we are fully, 100-per-cent behind the coaching staff that they have the right plans to turn it around next Saturday.

‘We were unbeaten for six games not so long ago and I am 100-per-cent behind the gaffer, as is everyone else in that changing room.

‘It’s not the manager’s fault we played the way we did on Saturday.

‘It’s my fault, it’s Thery Racon’s fault, it’s Simon Ferry’s fault, it’s every single player on the pitch, not the people who stand in the dugout.

‘It is down to us.’

For the teenager, the result was even more depressing considering where the sides were just five years ago.

And he fully understands the supporters’ angry backlash which has been witnessed in Saturday’s aftermath.

He added: ‘I went and watched Wimbledon once, now I am playing against them for Pompey and we have been absolutely bullied for 90 minutes.

‘I remember seeing them at Sandhurst five years ago in the Isthmian League and them taking 1,000 people there – and at that time you think what Pompey were.

‘It shows the demise of what has happened at the club and as a group of players we are obviously bitterly disappointed.

‘But it is happening, I feel, a little too much for us.’
