Pompey to stage disabled inclusion event

Titled Pompey For All, the event has been launched by Pompey Disabled Supporters’ Association to demonstrate their wide range of initiatives and activities.

Taking place in Fratton Park’s Victory Suite from 12-5pm, members of Paul Cook’s first-team squad will also be in attendance to meet supporters.

Tomorrow’s event is the club’s chief contribution to Level Playing Field’s Weeks of Action from April 2-17, which aims to highlight the issue of accessibility in sport.

Pompey are proud of their current output to the community and representatives from Pompey’s Amputee, Powerchair and Walking Football teams will be among those on hand to explain their sports.

Attendees have the opportunity to take part in taster sessions for boccia, a type of bowls for those with physical disabilities.

In addition, a fascinating virtual tour of Fratton Park will be available to watch on the day.

There will also be a number of information stalls on display in the Victory Suite, including the Pompey Disabled Supporters’ Association, the Audio Descriptive Service commentators who operate on match days, Pompey in the Community and Life and Chimes.

Chairman of Pompey DSA, Steve Webb, said: ‘The event is shaping up to be really exciting and we are expecting a large number of people to come along.

‘The fact some of Paul Cook’s squad are making an appearance shows their commitment to the cause of making the club more inclusive.’

Colin Farmery is Pompey’s head of inclusion and he’s hoping the event will show visitors the work currently being undertaken at the club.

He added: ‘I’m really looking forward to the event. We want Portsmouth Football Club to be truly a club for everyone who wants to be involved.

‘This is a chance to celebrate the positive things we have done as a Pompey family to make football as accessible as possible to all.’
