And talks to bring in Alan McLoughlin’s successor are ongoing.

But an arrival before tomorrow’s clash with Accrington appears unlikely.

Awford has been in discussions with potential new additions this week, after McLoughlin’s shock exit.

Now the Blues boss has told the board the man he wants from what was believed to have been a shortlist of four, with Gary Waddock the latest name to be mentioned.

Awford is now waiting to see how the process develops.

He said: ‘We’ve identified a new person to come into the backroom staff.

‘Obviously, we can’t say anything until it’s confirmed but those talks are ongoing.

‘Hopefully that will be confirmed as soon as possible.

‘There’s a lot of people out there. But we’ve identified the person and we are now looking to bring him in.

‘We got it down to a shortlist and we are now looking to bring him in as soon as we can.

‘It’s delicate. At the moment that’s where it’s at.

‘I’ve identified who I want and now it’s down to the club to try to get it sorted. I don’t know when it will happen.’

Awford explained he has been in discussions with the board about the type of character needed to come into the club.

Mixing the right experience of lower-league football with fitting into the existing set-up are key factors.

Awford added: ‘He needs to fit. So part of the research is to make sure you get that right person.

‘It’s been documented we need lower-league experience.

‘That criteria needs to be filled. We’ve had those discussions (Awford and the board) and that is one of the boxes we need to tick.’
