Andy Barcham set his sights on delivering payback for Pompey fans’ loyal following against Morecambe.

Barcham feels his Blues team-mates are indebted to the Fratton faithful for their unmitigated backing so far this season.

Pompey drew in a sell-out crowd for their opening-day clash with Oxford at Fratton Park.

They saw Guy Whittingham’s side fall to a disappointing 4-1 loss as Johnny Ertl was dismissed.

Around 1,500 fans then travelled to Bournemouth before more than 1,000 supporters rose early for last Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off at Accrington.

Now they return to home soil as Pompey go in search of their first win in League Two.

And Barcham reckons his team owe their fans a victory after the support they have shown the new-look side.

He said: ‘Of course, we’d love to give the supporters a win after Oxford.

‘We were disappointed after the first game, so it would be good to reward them.

‘They turned up in their numbers and got behind us all through that first game.

‘Even when it wasn’t going well, they stayed with us.

‘It really is fantastic to know you’ve got that support.

‘We couldn’t reward them in that opening game.

‘Hopefully we’ll get good numbers again against Morecambe and we give them the three points they want.’

Morecambe are expected to bring a minimal following for tomorrow’s game but Barcham believes that won’t impact on the atmosphere.

He said: ‘It was a special atmosphere for Oxford.

‘But when the games are here it’s always going to be like that.

‘Even if there aren’t a lot of away fans I still think the atmosphere is going to be special.’
