The Fratton Park factor played a key role in landing Curtis Main.
Main has sealed his arrival from Doncaster Rovers as Paul Cook’s eighth summer signing.
The 24-year-old joined on a two-year deal with a Pompey option for a third - for an undisclosed fee.
Main linked up his new team-mates on Saturday before today travelling to Ireland for the Blues’ pre-season tour.
The former Middlesbrough man explained he already knows plenty of the squad Paul Cook has assembled.
He expects that to make the process of settling into his new surroundings an easier one.
Main is aware the ambitions for the new campaign is to get Pompey out of the fourth tier at the fourth attempt.
It was the prospect of playing in front of sizeable crowds at his new home which really proved a big appeal to him, however.
Main told portsmouthfc.co.uk: ‘I’m really happy and excited that it’s all been sorted and that I’m now a Pompey player.
‘I had my first training session with the lads on Saturday. I already knew a few of them and the rest have all been brilliant, so I’ve settled in effortlessly.
‘I’ve come here to hopefully achieve promotion and I think that has to be the aim when you join a club like this.
‘The fans know that we belong at a higher level and I think everyone agrees with that, so we’re all working in the same direction.
‘I can’t wait to play in front of such large and passionate crowds at Fratton Park – that was a big draw for me signing here.’
