Leam Richardson praised Pompey’s work-rate after they dumped Championship side Derby County out of the Capital One Cup.

Substitute Conor Chaplin grabbed the 76th-minute winner to raise the roof off a rocking Fratton Park visited by the television cameras.

Earlier, Adam McGurk netted on his debut before Jason Shackell’s header levelled in the 74th minute.

Then Chaplin struck with his first-ever goal at Fratton to give the Blues a deserved victory over Paul Clements’ side.

And Pompey’s assistant manager was delighted with the attitude of the team against the higher division outfit.

Richardson said: ‘The one thing you must get is work-rate, especially when you are up against such a well-established calibre of management, playing staff and club in Derby County.

‘I thought the lads had it in abundance.

‘Every single one of them produced the work-rate and levels to win that game and we are delighted.

‘As a club we are quite keen on building a dressing room and togetherness and hopefully tonight you saw a little of that.

‘The lads in there who didn’t play but did against Dagenham were just as pleased for the lads tonight and that is a credit to them.’
