Pompey have suffered fresh injury woes for the busy festive period.

Andy Barcham and Shaun Cooper both had to be substituted during the second half of the dreadful 2-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Barcham was carrying a knock, while Cooper had to come off after being pushed over while chasing a ball.

They join Danny East on the sidelines after the defender suffered discomfort from his recent neck injury in training.

In addition, Tom Craddock is a long-term absentee following a knee operation.

Richie Barker will today learn the full extent of the problems to Barcham and Cooper.

But the fear is both could miss at least the Boxing Day visit of Dagenham & Redbridge.

Barker said: ‘Barch is probably not quite as bad and maybe could have carried on a little bit but we were only going to make it worse.

‘Coops didn’t look very positive when I asked him.

‘With Danny, he went for a header in training on Friday and his neck wasn’t quite right.

‘He did travel with us but didn’t look comfortable heading a ball and obviously you can’t really involve somebody as a defender if he’s not comfortable doing that.’

Meanwhile, Barker explained the absences of Dan Potts and Jack Whatmough from the squad for the Rovers fixture.

He added: ‘Potts is going back (to West Ham) and I had to make a decision on people who were going to be here this week.

‘With Jack there is no change but if it carries on the way it is then he might get more chances than he thought.’
