Jack Whatmough has been pencilled in for a December 1 Pompey comeback.

Stoke have provisionally agreed to send a development side to face the Blues at their Copnor Road training ground.

And Paul Cook is hoping to include Whatmough as the youngster continues his progress following knee ligament damage.

The defender this week stepped up his training, working outside on his fitness through running.

However, he is not yet involved in full training with his team-mates.

Regardless, Cook is encouraged by Whatmough’s headway and is eyeing the date with the Potters.

Although, the 19-year-old’s involvement is not yet cast in stone.

Cook said: ‘Jack is doing great and getting closer and closer to joining in with us.

‘But we will just keep taking him from week-to-week to see how he progresses and what games we play.

‘We have a game provisionally booked on December 1 here against Stoke and hopefully he is pencilled in for that.

‘That is week-by-week, that is not saying it definitely is his comeback.

‘He is doing running, his knee looks good now and the physios are happy with him.’

Meanwhile, Jayden Stockley this week resumed full training with Pompey following an ankle injury.

The striker is on loan from Bournemouth until January.

Cook added: ‘Jayden has obviously been out for quite a while so will need a little bit of time before he comes back into the frame.

‘He is going to be another week or two for sure, but his loan is up in January.

‘Football changes quickly, it wasn’t long ago when he was scoring at Bristol Rovers to put us top of the league and we were playing well.’
