Therry Racon admitted his surprise after getting his first taste of home support at Fratton Park.

The Frenchman, who is on loan from Millwall, turned in a decent display in the centre of midfield on his home debut.

But although he had heard good things about the Blues fans before his arrival, he was still taken aback by their unconditional support given the club’s long winless run.

‘I was really surprised about the fans – they are unbelievable,’ said the former Charlton player.

‘I had heard about Portsmouth fans before I came here but this was my home debut and it was really good to play with that kind of support behind you.

‘When I came here, I thought “maybe the fans won’t be behind us because of the situation” but I was wrong.

‘I was injured last season when Millwall played, so I haven’t played here before.

‘But the fans were behind us the whole time, even when we were losing 1-0. It’s crazy really.

‘I’ve played for a few teams in this country – and in France – and you don’t see support like this very often.’

Pompey have effectively assembled yet another new team of late but there are reasons for optimism and signs the new players are starting to form an understanding.

And while they have only returned successive draws, Racon believes it is a springboard to better things.

He said: ‘It’s hard because we have all come to the club, we don’t know each other and it’s like we’re in pre-season – but it’s the middle of the season.

‘We have to get results straight away and it’s really hard.

‘But I still think we can get some points – especially at home with these fans.

‘They are like an extra player for us.

‘We were happy to take a point against Carlisle but I felt there was a chance to take three.

‘We’ve been on a really bad run but we are unbeaten in two games, so let’s build on this.

‘Hopefully, we can go on to get some wins.

‘We’ve discussed it after the game and it should give us some confidence.

‘It’s just a shame we are in this situation. We are nine points from safety and it’s going to be hard but it’s not finished yet, so let’s do everything we can.’
