Wes Fogden saw through the pain of victory being snatched from Pompey and promised: We’re showing character.

Fogden believes his team have the desire to pull themselves away from the League Two relegation scrap.

Richie Barker’s men were hurt by a late, late leveller in the 1-1 draw at Exeter on Saturday.

That leaves them four points from the bottom two but all the sides below Pompey now have games in hand.

Fogden was floored by the leveller but believes his team are showing determination to get things right.

He said: ‘We went 1-0 up and showed good character through the team.

‘Then to lose it in the last 40 seconds is gutting because we thought we had all three points.

‘You have to do your job until the final whistle. We have to keep working hard.

‘But I’ve seen enough in the spirit we have shown to get out of trouble.

‘We’re more than capable of getting results and climbing the table.

‘The lads are digging in for each other and really putting in a shift.

‘But you have to play until the final whistle.

‘The character we are showing is a positive, though.

‘We are fighting.’

Fogden made his return to the starting 11 after being left out against Torquay after three games in a week.

The 25-year-old knows he is still finding his form and fitness after making his first appearance of the season in January following his switch from Bournemouth.

He said: ‘It’s another 90 minutes and fitness is better than it has been.

‘It’s a tough week but I’m feeling good and feeling strong.

‘Hopefully I can keep getting games and pushing on.’
