Leam RICHARDSON has played down the significance of Pompey’s Northampton success.
The Blues came from behind to seal a 2-1 victory courtesy of a fabulous header from Gareth Evans and a late Conor Chaplin strike which knocked the Cobblers off the top of League Two.
We are definitely not getting ahead of ourselves and we are not where we want to be yetLeam Richardson
It stretched Pompey’s unbeaten run to eight games and means it is just one defeat from 14 games in all competitions.
Many felt it was a result which laid down a marker to the rest of the division over Pompey’s promotion pedigree.
But the assistant boss refused to read too much into a score which seemed like the perfect pre-Christmas boost.
Richardson said: ‘We are definitely not getting ahead of ourselves and we are not where we want to be yet.
‘It’s a great result for us to come and win at the team at the top of the table – but it’s only three points.
‘We don’t want to over-emphasise anything and we won’t make too much of it.
‘Northampton are a very good team and we’re pleased to get the win.
‘But we will keep our heads down, get back to work on the training ground and look forward to Leyton Orient on Boxing Day.’
The Orient clash will be the midway point of the season and Richardson is convinced Pompey will get stronger over the second half of the campaign.
He said: ‘I think our form is okay at the minute.
‘But I think we can be better. We have got more fluency in us.
‘Hopefully, we can continue that form and application to get the results we want.
‘We showed a lot of character and the lads worked very hard.
‘But now it’s on to the next one.’
