The registered charity is competing for a £2,000 makeover prize in the Johnstone’s Paint Community Spirit campaign.

Pompey in the Community are currently in the process of expanding, taking over premises next door to its Anson Road office.

The extension is to be called Pompey Place and will involve the creation of three additional classrooms, offering aspects such as cookery classes and an enterprise area for secondary schools.

Community projects were invited to submit applications to the Johnstone’s Paint competition, with the eventual winner receiving a complete redecoration of their facility.

Following more than 50 entries, Pompey Place has joined Dagenham, Milton Keynes and Preston in a final four compiled by a judging panel based on criteria such as the impact the project has on the community and the urgency for redecoration.

A public vote until February 13 will decide the winner.

Clare Martin, chief executive of Pompey in the Community, said: ‘We have a new venue next door to our existing premises which we will be fitting out in the next few months and will house the work we do within Pompey Place.

‘Our work assists people of all ages and backgrounds with an emphasis on the vulnerable members of the community, so it would be fantastic if we could win the redecoration prize for our new building.’

Pompey Place’s bid to win has been backed by Pompey midfielder Johnny Ertl, who has visited the building.

He added: ‘There is some fantastic work carried out here for people right across the community.

‘The new building is going to be brilliant so I would urge everyone to take to their computers and phones to vote in the competition.’
