Guy Whittingham hailed his Pompey players despite their Capital One Cup defeat at Bournemouth.
The Blues suffered a 1-0 loss at the Championship outfit, who sealed their place in the next round thanks to Eunan O’Kane’s second-half effort.
It was Pompey’s second defeat of the new season, following the 4-1 reverse at the hands of Oxford on Saturday.
However, there were positive signs from the visitors in their latest outing, as Whittingham rung the changes.
And he praised the players chosen for their response and the way they took the game to their hosts at Dean Court.
‘I was really pleased with how we stuck at it tonight against a good Championship side,’ said Whittingham.
‘Of course I’m disappointed we lost, but the players responded well from Saturday and there were a lot of good performances across the side.
‘We wanted to freshen things up after that Oxford match and it showed we’ve got some really good players in this squad, which is what we’ve thought for a long time.
‘They kept going right to the end and I’m pleased with the amount of effort they put in against a team who love to pass the ball around.’
