ROMMY BOCO believes his versatility can help take Pompey to the next level.
The Blues’ newest recruit feels he has nothing to prove following his arrival at Fratton Park this week.
I think I could be good for the team.Rommy Boco
Boco has inked a deal at Fratton Park until the end of the season – but has immediately been loaned to the Hawks in the Vanarama National League South.
The purpose behind his month’s stay at Westleigh Park is for the utility man to pick up the match fitness he is short of.
Boco is confident he can then come into the equation and compete for a place in Paul Cook’s first team.
The 30-year-old has plenty of league experience at the likes of Accrington Stanley and Plymouth.
And he spent last season playing in League One under Cook at Chesterfield.
The Benin international feels that experience shows he has plenty to offer Pompey.
‘I’m a utility player,’ said Boco.
‘I will not be Ronaldinho or Messi but I will work and give 100 per cent.
‘I think I could be good for the team.
‘I will try to bring my experience to the young players who are being introduced to the team at the moment.
‘I have the right attitude and I’ve played a few hundred games in the league.
‘It’s not like I have anything to prove.
‘I’m in the position where I can manage a game.
‘Last season I played in League One at a good club and played well.
‘I helped to push the club forward and reach out for the next step.
‘I’ve watched the lads here and they are doing really well.
‘I want to help them reach the next step.’
Boco has been training with Pompey since the start of the season and has a long-term link with Cook.
He has played under the Blues boss in spells at Accrington and Sligo Rovers, as well as last season’s stint at the Proact Stadium.
A deal had to wait, however, with an agreement in place with Indian outfit Bharat FC.
That has now been cancelled, paving the way for his Pompey move.
Boco knows that he arrives at the Blues as a back-up option.
But he’s in no doubt he will have plenty to offer over the coming months.
‘I think I will be a good choice if I am needed,’ added Boco.
‘If there are injuries I will be able to fill in a few positions.
‘I can play right-back, right midfield, on the left or in the middle.
‘I’m an option. I don’t have one position.
‘I have a few positions and the main reason for me to be here is to help a team who are doing really well.
‘At the minute the team are doing well.
‘If there are injuries I will be able to cover and give 100 per cent.’
