JAMES DUNNE has challenged Pompey to banish their woeful away record.

The midfielder admitted his side need to find missing consistency if they are to become a League Two force.

We have one of the worst away records around this season

Only two Football League sides have a worse record on the road than Andy Awford’s side this season.

They are out to change that, though, as the Blues travel to Morecambe tomorrow – with three of their final five games this season on the road.

Dunne said: ‘We’ve been more consistent at home than away.

‘We have one of the worst away records around this season.

‘So we need more victories away from home to be in with a chance.

‘We need consistency in the whole team.

‘We’ve had runs where we’ve been consistent, even if there were a few draws.

‘There was a spell of one defeat in 11 games.

‘If we’d done that over the season and been more consistent we’d been higher up the league.

‘Because we haven’t been, we are where we are – and that’s what we need to work on.’

There is little to play for in terms of League Two ambitions over the dying embers of the campaign.

But Dunne feels the remaining fixtures do have a value in terms of looking towards the new campaign.

He said: ‘It’s about getting momentum towards the end of the season.

‘Hopefully, that’s something we can then take into next season.

‘It’s something we can build up.

‘You have to go in to a game like it’s the start of the season.

‘We need to get as many points as we can to get as far up the league as we can.

‘You can get the momentum which will help us on.’
