The Bognor coach is disappointed that the grass-roots level of the sport he loves has to stop again for a month as part of new measures designed to stop Covid-19 spreading.

It’s bad timing for the Rocks, who have just won four games on the trot.

Blake said: “We have a month off but we can go off happy and regroup. We had a few little niggles and have had a few out longer-term so it’s good from that point of view.

“Everybody’s in the same boat. Our players have to look after themselves and Neil Cockroft, Jack (Pearce) and I will be on to them about individual programmes to follow.

“We have a good group of players who want to look after themselves. We have quite a fit team for a non-league club.

“And there’s a feelgood factor about the place at this time. The supporters are happy, the fans are happy, the management are happy, there’s togetherness.”

Asked what his message was to fans as the new sporting shutdown began, Blake said: “The message is that they have been great – we appreciate the support. The fans are giving us encouragement and there’s a nice harmony with the crowd.

“I hope supporters everywhere stay safe with their families. We need unity and togetherness and if we do that as a country we can come out of this lockdown and have football back and life back if we obey the rules.

“We are looking forward to watching football again.”
