AFTER a slow start, Heath hit Midhurst hard in the second half to secure three points on a very wet day at Hanbury.

Midhurst worked hard in possession and looked tidy with the ball but rarely got too advanced to trouble Simon Lehkyj in the Heath goal as the back line and midfield protected the Heath area.

The deadlock was finally broken on 40 minutes as Heath’s hard work and persistence paid off. Carl Dunk picked the ball up on the right of midfield and played a great diagonal ball to pick out Phil Johnson, who made no mistake coolly beating the advancing keeper.

Just before the half-time whistle blew Heath were given a warning that Midhurst were still very much in the game as a free kick deep in the Heath half on the right was headed back towards goal but dropped just on the roof of the net.

On 62 minutes a corner by Jamie Weston and headed in by Josh Bryant to double Heath’s lead.

Five minutes later it was effectively game over as Johnson set up Rob O’Toole for the third.

Max Miller came on and within two minutes he raced on to a great through ball from Weston and finished brilliantly as the keeper closed the space down.

Heath’s final goal came in the 79th minute when a great run and cut inside by Weston ended with a shot that was saved, but Johnson pounced and converted from close range. As the clock ran down Midhurst tested Lehkyj from long distance.

Midhurst host Southwick this Saturday.

Eastbourne Utd Assoc 1 Chichester City 3

Combination premier

MILES RUTHERFORD saw his City team move into the premier division’s top ten with a fine victory in East Sussex.

Dan Hegarty gave Chichester a dream start with a third-minute opener while Josh Clack’s second-half double put the result beyond doubt.

Peter Cooper got one back for United with 15 minutes left. Rutherford’s men host East Preston this Saturday.

Selsey 1 Little Common 2

Division one

Jake Lintott’s goal could not save the Blues from a home defeat.

He levelled after Jared Lusted gave Common a first-half lead, but Lewis Hole left Selsey in one with a 75th-minute winner.

The Blues play at home to Lingfield on Saturday, while Sidlesham are at home to Seaford.

Pagham are in FA Vase action on Saturday, at home to Thame United in round two.
