Strachan's strike puts Pagham on road to derby win

An interesting Cup match was on the cards as Pagham, with four key absentees, did not want Felpham to avenge their recent league defeat.

Pagham surged into an early 2-0 lead through Rob Strachan’s cross-shot and Jack Barnes’ left-foot strike. However, wayward finishing by Pagham and brave goalkeeping by Felpham’s Johnny Marsh meant no further first-half goals.

A Joe Hurford header from a corner and a Karl Matthews’ shot further increased Pagham’s score but they became too casual, allowing Felpham’s Josh Davis to twice exploit their square defence with his pace and grab a well-deserved double.

Two further goals from Pagham, a second for Barnes and one from debutant Rory Wood against his former club, finished the game off.

Littlehampton Town Youth 0 Pagham Colts 5

The first half was fairly even but the second half saw Pagham turn chances into goals.

They missed a penalty early in the half but soon scored two quick goals.

Liam Kitchener headed them in front, followed by a Dan Gonzalez header, both coming via Ben Haines corners. Billy Stevens was put clean through to shoot past the keeper with Gonzalez making sure it crossed the line.

Gonzalez was again on the scoresheet and minutes from time an excellent five-man move resulted in James Williams completing the scoring.

Chi High School for Boys 2 Bognor 1

Brad Dean, the CHSB captain, got his team to apply early pressure to unsettle the Bognor keeper in this National Cup clash.

There could have been an early disaster for Chichester when a mistake from Rafferty left an open goal but the assistant’s flag was up for offside.

A corner by Baker led to Chichester hitting the woodwork.

Both sides enjoyed good chances but out of nowhere, Osman’s wonder-strike put CHSB ahead.

Bognor’s first attack of the second half led to the equaliser.

An extra ten minutes each way was needed and it was enough for CHSB to win it.

A corner resulted in a poor clearance from the visitors and the ball shot back off a Bognor player’s knee and into his own net.

CHSB’s man of the match was Craig Newson – and now the boys can look forward to the second round.

Pagham Youth 2 Regis 2000 1

In the second round of the Challenge Cup, Regis started well – but towards the end of the half Pagham saw Misselbrook and Smith go close.

A superb through-ball from Arnell put Standen in on goal and after drawing the Regis keeper he finished into the bottom corner.

On 70 minutes Standen’s persistence won a corner and Urbanczyk’s inswinger went straight in.

Right on full-time Regis managed a consolation after a goalmouth scramble.

Man of the match for Pagham was Matthew Rodway.

Predators 2 Barnham Trojans 1

This second-round Challenge Cup game started Farndell crossing to Irish, who missed a fantastic opportunity to put Predators ahead.

Barnham saw a shot cleared off the line but it hit the Predators keeper and rebounded in.

Predators came out for the second half and took control, and within ten minutes Josling made the score 1-1.

A header from Davies found Irish, who scored the second.

Barnham hit the bar but Predators went through to the quarter-finals.

Men of the match were Blackman and Jukes.

UNDER-14

Uckfield Grasshoppers 2 Chichester City Youth 5

City turned on the pressure and had several chances but each time the Uckfield keeper was first to the ball. But their efforts were rewarded when a neat through-ball was taken round the keeper and slotted in by Zac Moy.

Uckfield responded with an immediate equaliser and took the lead after a penalty was awarded for a handball in the box.

But City levelled before the break with a powerful run into the box by Collins Alfred.

City took control in the second half with James Amos switching to centre midfield. He scored the third while the fourth came from the spot when Moy was felled and Harry Yeo, back after ten weeks out with a broken leg, stepped up to knock the penalty past the keeper.

Will Dry wrapped it up with neat control in the box and a shot home.

Man of the match was Dan McDonald, who controlled everything at the back.

Worthing Town Youth Blue 1 Predators Youth 4

Early Predators pressure brought a reward with a goal from Jordan Smith, who coolly placed his shot into the bottom corner.

Jake Evans was unlucky as his piledriver from outside the box rattled the woodwork.

In the second half Sean Donner settled Predators’ nerves by volleying in a cross from the left.

Alex Burford made the game safe heading home a corner before Worthing scored a consolation breakaway goal.

Alex Stanton completed the scoring.

UNDER-11

Whyke United embarked on a trip to play a team of Fulham FC youngsters at Motspur Park, the Premier League club’s training ground.

They were treated to a tour of the facilities, gaining an insight to the lives of the first team and academy players.

The players took to the 3G pitch for a warm-up and all 19 players were given a chance of playing against academy players.

Whyke Orange and Whyke Black played brilliantly and led in both games but the Fulham boys’ superiority shone through with scores of 5-2 and 4-3.

Whyke gained valuable lessons which will help them in the campaign ahead.

The coaching staff and players said a massive thanks to Fulham, who were so full of praise for Whyke that they invited them back next season.

UNDER-NINE

Barnham Trojans Red 0 Felpham Colts 4

The Colts started well but were close to going a goal down early on when Max Searle and Fraser Partridge cleared off the line.

Luke Hubbard started to make some great runs and it came as no surprise when he took on three players and smashed home the opener. Hubbard scored again shortly after with another fine shot.

Harry Geall got on the scoresheet when he turned two defenders, drew the keeper and slotted home.

After fine performances by Rhys Nicholas and Daniel Kearns, they were replaced by Cian Markie and Josh Mines.

A fine last-gasp tackle by man of the match Fraser Partridge led to Hubbard going straight down the other end and completing his hat-trick.
