Hastings United led the Isthmian south east division when football was suspended and they, along with those three other Sussex-based league leaders, were among 151 clubs who had written to the FA asking for the move to be reconsidered or delayed.

Now Us CEO Billy Wood has tweeted to say he hopes the National League - the three non-league divisions above step three - is given the same 'null and void decision'.

The National League clubs are being asked to vote on whether their season should end now, and if so, how it should be settled. Eastbourne Borough are among the clubs set to vote.

Hastings chief Wood tweeted: "We at @hastingsufc fought against the decision to null and void. However it’ll be interesting how the @TheVanaramaNL vote, if they go PPG we have to consider why Step 3-7 couldn’t adopt the same approach? If all steps are treated the same acceptance is a lot easier."

Littlehampton Town, who were in line for promotion from division one of the SCFL, have also reacted. They tweeted: "We were obviously disappointed to hear that FA Council ratified the decision to null and void yesterday afternoon but we did expect that to be the case. When the time is right we shall commence planning for the new season when we have an idea of when that will happen.

"The club fully supports manager @Mark_Bennett_1 and his management team in their vision for our club. We have full confidence between them and the squad they built that we can achieve next season what we set out to do this season.

"We hope everyone stays safe and healthy at this time of crisis and we hope to see all our players, supporters and sponsors when it is eventually safe to return to playing football."
