Paul Cook believes the loan defender has been on the receiving end of ill fortune in his loan stay at Fratton Park.

But the Blues boss reckons the Sheffield United loanee has a role to play over the final seven games of the season.

Freeman was recruited in January as cover for right-back Ben Davies and can also be utilised further down the flank.

The 24-year-old has been restricted to just one start and 12 minutes of playing time in two substitute appearances.

A knee injury picked up against Accrington Stanley has kept Freeman out for three weeks.

He is now available again and searching for involvement.

Cook said: ‘We haven’t seen the best of Kieron Freeman.

‘He’s such a good player.

‘Kieron made his debut against Leyton Orient.

‘So those first impressions came and it was on the back of Ben Davies not playing, who has had a fantastic season.

‘Then he had his injury, a whack on the knee.

‘But Portsmouth fans haven’t seen the best of Kieron, yet. Nowhere near.’

Cook has expressed his contentment with the players at his disposal for the rest of the campaign.

He has a squad of 24 at present and is more than happy with his options.

‘I think we have a very good squad,’ added Cook.

‘I can guarantee the people we could have brought in would have had equal or more deficiencies than the players we’ve already got here.

‘There’s not one player we’re looking to move on at the minute.

‘We are looking to improve them and get the best out of them.’
