Watch out Rooneys ... Pirates bidding for Sunday Cup glory

Pirates play Southampton’s Fountain Court in the first round at Bognor FC this Sunday (Oct 16, 2pm). Entry is £2.

Pirates manager Charlie Welling said: “We’ll be playing against the best in Sunday football but will give it a try.”

Last year’s winners were Oyster Martyrs, a Liverpool side featuring three Rooneys – Wayne’s brother Graham and cousin Thomas playing in a team managed by uncle Richie.

Sussex Sunday Senior Cup

Nyetimber Pirates won a thriller at Avisford Park as they knocked the holders out in the first round.

Old Barn were favourites after a great start to the season but Pirates welcomed back Jordan Tribe and Micheal Olbarn. Old Barn struck first when Scott Towers smashed home from close range.

Pirates hit back when Sean Williamson flicked the ball into the far post past Ash Pugh.

Two minutes later Pirates were awarded a penalty when Danny Towers handled and Olbarn scored from the spot.

The Barn struck back when Nathan Parke scored twice in the matter of minutes.

Jamie Walter made a number of brilliant saves keeping the Pirates afloat. Then sub Kerry Hardwell’s header made it 3-3.

Tom Stairs was shown a straight red in extra-time and the Pirates hit the Barn with a barrage of attacks before ex-Old Barn striker Dean Cooper’s 117th-minute strike sealed it.

Sunday League division two

On 37 minutes Enoch Kwoffie had a great chance to put the visitors ahead but his thunderbolt flew over.

The Uni were awarded a free-kick and Read’s shot squirmed through Steve Nanson’s grasp and trickled in.

Tyler Hope was sent on and soon scored an opportunist’s equaliser. But a reshuffle in Elmer’s defence was exploited when the Uni regained the lead.

Two minutes later Kwoffie scored the goal of the match with a lob over the stranded goalkeeper from 25 yards.

Ken Baker Memorial Cup

Player-manager Jack Davis squandered three free headers after great delivery from the impressive Jamie Greenhill.

Man of the match Dan Bailey, Alex Berry, Steve Hyde, Greenhill and Sam Pullen all went close for Elmer.

In the second half they found a way past Darren Rogers with great build-up play that allowed Greenhill to make it 1-0.

Elmer were delighted to reach the memorial cup semi-final.
